Golden grape-vine

Gold grapes trapped within your mouth,

sweet smells of childhood summer

on your fingers.

The narrow place between market benches.

Scents in the air...

With eyes closed I can see

spots of sweat on your t-shirt,

in the basket

onions between spices

tied with white strings,

five tomatoes, garlic, dill,

parsley and thyme...

carrots, only two.

In the pot, chicken soup.

Two of us

connected like Lady and the Tramp

with

Taking into consideration, who I was in life, if I could find a way back, without hesitation, I would return to you

No matter how many mountains I had to climb, no matter how many oceans I would have to swim, I would return to you if I could

It was never my intention to leave you alone, I know you are so sad and blue.

The smell of dry, old paper

Breathe calmly, your heart at peace,

feel this book underneath your hand

and imagine the smell of dry, old paper,

allow all of your senses to feel it.

Remember the moment.

One day it will be

the old book with slightly worn-out corners

titled with my name.

Touch it slowly, open it,

inhale the love waiting there for you,

always the same, always fresh,

impregnated for eons to come

inside that smell of dry, old paper.

Returning to his homeland this Christmas and New Year he was invited to be the Guest of Honor at the Sahitya Akademi, Delhi. The Akademi is an extremely important place in Indian Literary Circles and it was reported that there was a very large turn-out to hear Dr Mitra speak and to read his poetry.

From a collection of formal poetry "Form and Favour"

The form in this sonnet is Petrarchan or Italian, modified with iambic pentameter. The Petrarchan pure form suits the Italian language much better than English hence the adaptation.

In Tuscany my demons now have fled

My mind consoled by grapes from off the vine

My palette touched with pasta to combine

Oh glory seen in crystal glass of red.

But darkness still must come to make me dread

We are at wits end as we know we must battle Sia, Orion Goddess of the Underworld

Only the stones of Cheyenne, can destroy this entity of evil and destruction

Her most favored servant Uric, think he and he alone possess the stones that could give him complete control over the planet Earth, the entire world

But one stone he does not possess, he dropped one when he stole them, when he stole them, when he was on the run.

Most feel in total unison with the universe, making people feel like with the universe they are brothers

I try to keep my vows, but it is very hard being the wife of a God.

The dream and the dreamer sang in tune

In the light of the willow tree moon;

They danced on the surface of the rippling brook

In this crystal night of June.

The dream and the dreamer were as one that night

Like a dragonfly with its wings;

And their love affair took flight that night

Blessed by Elfin Rings.

The dream and the dreamer had limited time

They knew that deep inside;

But for the time they had, 'twas bliss

Could this really be a possibility, something of proof?

But don;t you think there is a certain order of things, things that we just can't see?

Maybe there is more to history, something we yet don't know but when we do, to all logic, it will simply blow off the roof?

Did our ancestors, the ancients know something that we do not?

All the mystical places on Earth where it is said energy can be felt

inhaling nature’s scents and its sensation

touching my true love’s petals so fragile.

A breeze’s lullaby and soft vibration

is dandling flowers which on branches huddle

In the back ground I hear the old bell as it tolls in another year

My life never changed each day, each week, each year much like the other

A new year, I have existed so long, the thought brings me very little fear

Even if I am cursed, mankind and I are still brothers.

I respect life, I

hate the fact, t times I must steal another's life force

But long ago, I was bitten by the bat, that made my life turn into a living hell

This thing made me stick to a life, a life that had ...

The snow on the ground, looks like the earth has snuggly gone to sleep under a white blanket

I know it is so cold outside, but the beauty I see, well the scene is in no way bland

Even the bare tress, look like upon this scene they just fit.

There is even a small steam, snaking it's way through the white, with the help of the sun, looks so very bright

Looking from my window, the entire scene, just takes ...

Within the deep dark caverns of my mind, I shall celebrate the holidays my way

I can't cook for my family or physically show them my love

But in my mind, even though they are in the grip of death, I can visit them everyday

I know within my heart they are looking down on me from above.

Only in my mind can I imagine all the fun with the on Christmas mourn

I can set out the presents and have a big family meal
